IBN24 Desk: Raipur (chhattisgarh) The Chhattisgarh School Education Department has decided to introduce a major reform in the state’s school education system by shifting the academic session to April 1–March 31 from the 2027–28 academic year, bringing it in line with the academic calendar followed by major education boards across the country. School Education Secretary Dr. Kamal Preet Singh has issued necessary directions to the Director, Directorate of Public Instruction, for implementation of the new academic calendar.
Under the existing system, the academic session in Chhattisgarh runs from June 16 to April 30. This will now be replaced with a session beginning on April 1 and ending on March 31 of the following year. The annual summer vacation will remain unchanged from May 1 to June 15, ensuring that students continue to receive the same duration of summer holidays.
The department has directed that all key academic and student welfare activities commence on the very first day of the new session. These include the Shala Pravesh Utsav, distribution of free textbooks, bicycles under the Saraswati Cycle Yojana, school uniforms and other student-oriented schemes and activities.
The state government believes that the revised academic calendar will ensure that students receive textbooks, uniforms and other essential educational support at the beginning of the session itself, enabling uninterrupted learning from the first day. The move is also expected to make classroom teaching more effective, systematic and academically productive across government schools.
